Report: France 1-2 England MU20s

England men’s under-20s continued their 100 per cent record in the U20 Euro Elite League with a 2-1 victory against France at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano, in Spain.

Darren Moore’s side made a quick start to proceedings, with striker Shumaira Mheuka and captain Mikey Moore getting on the scoresheet early in the first half to ensure all three points.

The Young Lions established their lead in the ninth minute, with Mheuka finishing past France goalkeeper Mathys Niflore to open the scoring.

A long ball forward from goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff was taken well by Mheuka, who finished into the net.

Moore, who previously managed at EFL League One side Port Vale in 2025, was appointed head coach of the under-20 side earlier this month.

Midfielder Moore, on loan at FC Köln from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, added a second goal just five minutes later to double the lead as England took early control.

Trey Nyoni found Moore, who added the second as the Young Lions doubled their lead.

In a first half that was balanced on the possession front, France failed to produce any real trouble for England goalkeeper Whatmuff.

With England in control, a triple substitution was made with 30 minutes remaining, as two of the scorers in England’s 3-1 victory against Italy on Saturday were swapped, with Jesse Derry replacing Shea Lacey.

Shortly after, France pulled a goal back to reduce the score to 2-1, with Prosper Peter finding the net in the 69th minute.

The victory sends England top of the U20 Euro Elite League, sitting on six points ahead of Czechia in second place.

Following the victory, the Young Lions are back in U20 Euro Elite League action on 3 October, facing Germany at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano (16:30pm kick-off).
