BIO

“To get that call...I remember being in an airport at the time, and for the first time in years, I shedded a little tear. It was like, England, wow, it's mad that."

Grassroots club: Whitehaven Miners
County FA: Cumberland FA

The Cumbrian-born goalkeeper received his first call-up to the England senior squad in October 2019, after impressing with his performances for Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Hailing from Whitehaven, Henderson was initially a young player at his local club Carlisle United, who he also used to represent as an outfield player before making the switch to Manchester United when he was 14.

During his time at Old Trafford, Henderson was a regular in England's development squads at numerous levels while also picking up experience during loan spells with Shrewsbury Town and the Blades.

He was a major part of their squad as Chris Wilder's side won promotion from the Championship in 2019, before re-joining for a second loan as they entered the top flight.

And his displays at Bramall Lane meant he was added to Gareth Southgate's squad as they rounded off their EURO 2020 qualifying games.

Henderson would be included in the squad for the tournament, only for injury to force his withdrawal and, following another loan spell at Nottingham Forest, he joined Crystal Palace in the summer of 2023.

Establishing himself as the Eagles' No1, Henderson was included in the Three Lions squad for EURO 2024 and made his first start for England the following October in a 3-1 UEFA Nations League win over Finland.

In recent seasons, Henderson has been a key figure in a golden period for Crystal Palace, saving a penalty in the 2025 FA Cup final to help clinch the club's first major trophy.

He was named club captain during the 2025-26 season and was instrumental as Oliver Glasner's side won the UEFA Conference League, with his form earning him a place in his first World Cup squad for the 2026 edition in North America.
