Ellen White scored her 42nd and 43rd goals for the Lionesses in a commanding first-half performance that also saw goals from Nikita Parris and Alex Greenwood.

 

Greenwood scored again on her 50th cap just after the break before Millie Bright headed home the first goal of her England career before she, Rachel Daly and Bethany England added three more in injury time.

 

The Lionesses dominated possession in the opening stages, going close within two minutes when Demi Stokes was just unable to latch on to a pass from Parris, who came into the side as one of two changes to the starting line-up alongside Fran Kirby.

 

Manchester City teammates Lauren Hemp and White were also proving a potent combination, Hemp’s first cross just out of reach of White, but it would not be long before the striker was on the scoresheet.

In the 12th minute, White connected beautifully with a cross from Hemp at the near post, stretching to direct the ball past goalkeeper Schlimé to hand England the lead.

 

White then got her second four minutes later, this time having been set up by skipper Leah Williamson and Kirby, as she tucked the ball past the keeper.

 

Luxembourg defended resolutely in the box as Kirby was denied from a few yards out before launching their first attack of the game, but it was well closed down by the England defence.

 

And Parris added England’s third in the 27th minute, benefiting from poor defending after a Kirby corner, with Greenwood set up in a similar fashion ten minutes later, firing the ball in on the half-volley to score on her 50th cap.

 

The Lionesses continued to dictate possession and Hemp came close to scoring her first England goal, firing just wide having weaved into the box as England entered the break 4-0 up.

England added to their tally in the second half with Greenwood scoring in the 47th minute, with a deflected shot from outside the box sailing in.

 

Greenwood then almost turned provider but her corner could not be directed past the Luxembourg defence by Bright.

 

And while Luxembourg provided more in the way of threat in the second half, they weren't able to create any clear-cut chances thanks to defensive pressure from England.

 

Substitutes made 13 minutes into the second half by Wiegman saw England’s tempo restored, as Jessica Berscheid bundled into her own net extend the Lionesses' lead.

 

But Bright wouldn't let up in her search for a first England goal and her patience paid off in the 78th minute as she directed a Beth Mead free-kick across goal and into the back of the net.

England continued to pour forward for the remainder of the game, with substitute Georgia Stanway testing the goalkeeper from long range before Bright got another, again linking with Mead.

 

Daly took the scoreline to nine in the 93rd minute and was swamped by her teammates as she paid tribute to her late father in her celebration.

 

And England moved the Lionesses into double figures with the final goal of the game to finish off a resounding victory for England at Stade de Luxembourg.
