England WU19 squad named for EURO qualifiers

Young Lionesses will be facing Greece, Wales and Czechia in UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship qualifiers

Head coach Amy Merricks has selected her 20-player England WU19 squad for October’s UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship qualifiers.

The Young Lionesses will face Greece, Wales and Czechia in the first round of qualifying for next summer’s tournament in Lithuania.

All teams are divided into League A and B, with two rounds of qualifying taking place.

After round one, the top three teams in each of the seven groups within League A will have the chance to qualify for the EUROs in round two of qualification, where they will be joined in mini groups by the top teams from the groups in League B.

The winner of the seven League A round two qualification groups will then join the hosts Lithuania in the eight-team Finals tournaments next summer.

England WU19s’ season got off to an unbeaten start in September, with a strong 5-0 victory over Denmark and a thrilling 3-3 draw with Germany.

And Amy Merricks’ side will be looking to build on this momentum as they vie for a place in next summer’s championships in Wales over the next week.
