Players discuss their ‘ten out of ten’ shirts after new England home and away kits are launched

‘My favourite kit so far’, ‘ten out of ten’ and ‘a very beautiful shirt’ were just some of the comments made by England players after seeing their new kits for the first time.

England men’s, women’s and para teams will all be wearing almost identical home and away kits this year, with the new home and away shirts revealed in March.

Kit manufacturer Nike describe the England 2024 home kit as a modern take on a classic white strip.

The training gear worn by England legends of yesteryear has been the inspiration for the trim on the cuffs, whilst the bold purple colour remixes reds and blues from the past.

After seeing the home shirt for the first time, Bukayo Saka said: “It is unbelievable. I think this is the best kit we are going to wear and that I will have worn. It has a classic look and the collar is top. It is ten out of ten.”

Phil Foden agreed that it may be the best England shirt he has worn, saying: “O my god, what a kit. It is my favourite kit so far.”

And Declan Rice added: “This kit is a ten, a classic. It is proper retro; it feels like the 1966 kit.”

It wasn’t just the England men’s players who loved the new home kit and it’s modern yet old-school feel.

Lionesses striker Alessia Russo said: “I really like it. It is retro. I would give it ten out of ten.”

It is a sentiment shared by her best mate and fellow England star Ella Toone, who added: “I love home kits because they are the ones you always wanted as a kid. The shorts are so smart as well.”

The 2024 away kit received similar rave reviews.

It reimagines iconic kits from the past with a modern twist, with the eye-catching purple a mix of classic blue and red England change kits from previous years.

The graphic side panels feature seven different colours with a nod to English fashion.

England women’s defender Esme Morgan said: “It is very different but it is stunning. I have never seen a colour like that on a kit before.

“The little subtle rose gold details as well are so smart. They are both really nice kits.”

Fellow Lionesses defender Niamh Charles added: “I love it. I would say it is the highest-rated kit I have ever worn. It is smart and is really nice.”

After rating the home shirt so highly, Saka and Rice were also full of praise for the away strip.

“This shirt is cold, it’s sick,” Rice said, with Saka adding: “I don’t know what to say. It is a very beautiful shirt.

“It is one of those kits which can be worn on or off the pitch. It is that nice.”

The goalkeeper kit also received the seal of approval from the Lionesses’ award-winning shot-stopper Mary Earps, who said: “It is a nice colour; I like it when it is bright. I really like it.”

Other items, outside of the replica shirts, will also be available and impressed the players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold feels the anthem jacket has ‘that 1990s’ vibe’, while Marc Guéhi said ‘I am just getting images of Paul Gascoigne in my head’ after seeing it.

Cole Palmer and Rice also said they could see themselves wearing the England cargo trousers, even away from the pitch.

The new home and away strips were worn for the first time by the men’s senior and development squads in March, including the Wembley double-header against Brazil and Belgium.
