It was brilliant to beat Mexico 4-2 on Monday and confirm our place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Everyone was really happy and proud of how we did. Now all of our focus is on North Korea on Thursday and topping the group.
As a team we always say, no matter what happens, whatever the score is, to keep your head up and keep going. Never give up. We had to deal with difficult moments against Mexico but we fought back and I was really happy to score one goal and set up two. The response showed how together we are as a team. We stayed focused and helped each other to get the win.
I’m really happy with the way I’ve started the tournament on a personal note. To get Player of the Match in the Mexico game was a dream come true and now doing it again and continuing to perform in this tournament is really important to me.
The tournament as a whole has been a fantastic experience so far. Playing against teams that are not in Europe is different and we’ve had to find ways of overcoming both Kenya and Mexico. Different experiences will help me individually as well as the team.
All the squad are getting on really well off the pitch, which hopefully you can see in the matches. Everyone’s really close. Our friendships are amazing and they’re developing as time goes on, too.
One hobby we’ve all really taken to is water polo. Showing our competitive sides against each other instead of being on the same team is a lot of fun and helps us relax between games.
It’s all aimed towards success in this competition and we believe we’re on the right track.
