With the Lionesses set for another quarter-final at a major tournament, we take a look back at some of England's most memorable final-eight ties in years gone by

The Lionesses are quarter-final bound once again, with Sarina Wiegman's side set to lock horns with Sweden at UEFA Women's EURO 2025 for a place in the semi-final.
Here, we take a look back at some of England's most memorable final-eight ties at past tournaments ahead of tomorrow's clash.
England 2-1 Spain – UEFA Women’s EURO 2022
For the first time in the tournament, the Lionesses found themselves trailing 1-0 against Spain with around five minutes of their final eight tie remaining in Brighton and time ticking.
With 84 minutes played, Ella Toone netted an equaliser to force the quarter-final to extra time and keep England’s hopes alive before Georgia Stanway bagged the match winner in style on the south coast on a memorable night.

The Lionesses survived a scare to make it through to the semi-final of EURO 2022
England 1-0 France – UEFA Women’s EURO 2017
Having been made to wait 43 years for victory over France, England set up a semi-final clash with hosts, the Netherlands, after beating Les Bleues in Deventer at EURO 2017.
Jodie Taylor notched the only goal of the game on the hour mark – her fifth of the campaign – as the forward took a step closer to being crowned the tournament’s top scorer, having already netted a hat-trick during the group stage.

Finland 2-3 England – UEFA Women’s EURO 2009
Goals from Eni Aluko and Fara Williams booked England’s place in the semi-final for the first time since 1995 as Hope Powell’s side overcame Finland in a thrilling quarter-final tie.
Aluko broke the deadlock in the first half and Williams doubled the Lionesses’ advantage. The tournament hosts pulled a goal back before Aluko restored their two-goal lead before Finland made it 3-2 late in the day.

England 2-1 Colombia – FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
The reigning European champions reached another semi-final, this time beating Colombia in Australia and once again, they called on their never-say-die attitude after Colombia opened the scoring in the first half.
Lauren Hemp levelled deep into stoppage time before the half-time whistle sounded. And Alessia Russo scored the winner in front of over 75,000 fans in Sydney to see the Lionesses advance.

Norway 0-3 England – FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019
England reached back-to-back World Cup semi-finals, seeing off Norway with a comfortable 3-0 win in the quarter-final as Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze each made the scoresheet.
Scott’s opener – scored with two minutes and six seconds on the clock in Le Havre – marked the fastest goal scored at the tournament before White and Bronze added to England’s tally.

England 2-1 Canada – FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015
An historic victory over Canada saw England reach a first World Cup semi-final where they would meet defending champions Japan in Germany where the tournament was staged.
The Lionesses came flying out of the blocks with two goals in the opening 15 minutes courtesy of Jodie Taylor and Lucy Bronze before the opposition halved the deficit. However, England held on for the win.
