MEET ENGLAND'S EURO 2025 FINALISTS

England’s Lucy Bronze made her 35th appearance at a major tournament in last night’s dramatic semi-final victory over Italy at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

The defender has now featured in the joint most games at major tournaments, with the chance to take the record in Sunday’s final against Spain.

But before that, we take a look at Lionesses’ top five appearance makers at European Championships and World Cups.

Jill Scott – 35 appearances

Jill Scott’s tournament debut came against Japan at the 2007 World Cup, introduced off the bench in Shanghai and getting off the mark later in the group stage against Argentina.

The midfielder was the hero in the semi-final of the 2009 EUROs in Finland, scoring a last gasp 116th minute winner against the Netherlands to see England march on the final where they were eventually beaten.

Two years later, the former Manchester City and Everton star was included in the 2011 World Cup squad, scoring twice as England reached the quarter-finals. Inclusions in the squads for the 2013 EUROs, 2015 World Cup, 2017 EUROs and 2019 World Cup followed as Scott continued to add to her tally.

And it wasn’t long before her eighth major tournament beckoned, with the 2022 edition of the EUROs on the horizon. The Lionesses lifted the trophy, beating Germany in a dramatic showpiece at Wembley before the 38 year old announced her retirement.

Lucy Bronze – 35 appearances

Some 12 years ago, a youthful Lucy Bronze was named in the squad for EURO 2013, which took place in Sweden, where she was an unused substitute but she didn’t have to wait long to make her tournament debut which came at the 2015 World Cup, scooping the goal of the tournament accolade for her strike against Norway in the round of 16.

The defender was named in the team of the tournament at the 2017 EUROs for her performances, along with the 2019 World Cup in France, acting as vice-captain.

Bronze started all six of England’s games at EURO 2022 as the Lionesses made history and the following year, she helped her country reach a World Cup final for the first time out in Australia.

And major tournament number seven came at the 2025 EUROs in Switzerland, with England’s most experienced player converting the decisive penalty against Sweden in the quarter-final while also making the scoresheet.

Karen Carney – 32 appearances

Former England international Karen Carney burst onto the scene at EURO 2005 which was hosted by England across Lancashire and Cheshire. A 17-year-old Carney netted an injury time winner against Finland to mark her mark.

Hope Powell named the midfielder in her squad for the 2009 EUROs as England made the final, with Carney scoring in the showpiece as the Lionesses fell short against Germany. She went on to make the team for the 2011 World Cup, staged in Germany, and the subsequent 2013 EUROs before the 2015 World Cup in Canada was next on the agenda.

Having played her part in the 2017 EUROs, the 2019 World Cup was Carney’s last tournament for her country, confirming that she would hang up her boots after the tournament. She made her 144th and final appearance in the third-place match-up against Sweden.

Ellen White – 27 appearances

The Lionesses’ record goalscorer opened her account at a major tournament in the 2011 World Cup, rippling the net against Japan during the group stage. She went on to make the EURO 2013 squad and the 2015 World Cup team as England managed their best-ever finish at the tournament, taking home the bronze medal.

At the 2017 EUROs in the Netherlands, White got in on the act in a 6-0 win over Scotland in their Group D opener as England made it to the semi-final and at the 2019 World Cup, she netted an impressive six goals in five games, scoring in each of the knockout ties.

But EURO 2022 would mark White’s last involvement in a major tournament, signing off in style as the Lionesses clinched the European crown on home soil, with the Manchester City striker chipping in with two goals against Norway in the group stage.
