Leah Williamson faces England campmates quiz

As the England women’s squad continue their build-up to this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 tournament in Switzerland, we caught up with Lionesses captain Leah Williamson.

Following on from Grace Clinton, Niamh Charles, Jess Park and Lauren Hemp so far, the Arsenal defender tackled our Campmates quiz as we find out a bit more about the characters and dynamics within the Lionesses ranks.

Leah, who is your best friend in the camp?

Keira Walsh, and then Alex [Greenwood] and Georgia [Stanway]. I’ve known Keira since I was a baby and coming through the teams together, so we so spend a lot of time with each other.

Who’s the biggest joker in the camp?

Hmm, I’d say Tooney probably. I know I won’t be the first one to say that too!

Who’s good to pull for a quiet chat about anything, not necessarily football related?

I’ll always turn to Keira generally, but I also think Alex Greenwood is great for when it comes to a real chat with someone who’s going to listen to you. She’s good for that.

Who’s the keenest trainer?

I’d say Lucy Bronze, she’s always ready to go and gives it everything. I think Mary was like that too, when she steps onto the training pitch she goes into a different zone.

Who would you always find in the gym?

Whenever I go in the gym, I always see Millie Bright in there but there are lots of people who work really hard and I’d say the goalkeepers are always in there too.

As we know, you’re seen as the resident DJ in charge of the tunes. But if it wasn’t you, who would be the best?

Well, earlier this season we had a bit of a transition so ‘Less did a couple of games and she was great. But I like Alessia’s music, so it was definitely a tactical switch. I trust her, so I had no need to get involved!

Who would you most likely find on their phone?

Georgia Stanway is always on the phone, as well as Beth Mead.

Who gets the most pumped up for a game in the dressing room?

We’re a pretty chilled team to be honest, when we’re in the dressing room. Chloe Kelly’s always dancing and vibing but I’d have to say Lucy Bronze once we’re out of there and going onto the pitch.

Who is the most competitive outside of football?

Again, I’d have to say Lucy. She’s the most competitive person I’ve ever met, and at everything she does she wants to win. Board games is the one too, and I also always hear Tooney moaning as she can get pretty competitive too. There’s a little group of ‘Less, Maya, Tooney and Grace, and I don’t know how they have the will to live after playing as much as they do!
