Lois Shooter and Kyri Teer-Hutchins got England off the mark in UEFA Women’s U19 European qualifying

England’s Young Lionesses earned their first point of the qualifying campaign for next summer’s UEFA Women’s U19 European Championship in their second game, as they drew 2-2 with Switzerland.

After an 5-1 opening defeat to Denmark three days previously, England women’s under-19s bounced back from an early goal to go 2-1 up through superb goals by Lois Shooter (pictured above) and Kyri Teer-Hutchins,

Playing the second of three games in Bosnia & Herzegovina this month, this time at FF BH Football Training Centre in Zenica, England went behind early before bouncing back, helped by an instant impacy from debutant Rania Oukriss.

How the game unfolded

Switzerland took the lead after three minutes. After a great turn under pressure and through-ball by Garance Nein, Tiffany Vonnez was clean through and had her effort saved by Evie Mitchell, but the Young Lionesses goalkeeper couldn’t stop Jasmin Bornemann from scoring the rebound.

But it wasn’t long before England levelled. Teer-Hutchins won the ball high up the pitch from a Switzerland goal kick, and Shooter capitalised in spectacular fashion as she fired the ball into the top-left corner from 30 yards out.

On 61 minutes, the Young Lionesses took the lead from a similar situation as they intercepted a Swiss goal kick.

After a header was won in the middle of the pitch, Oukriss, who had come on seconds earlier for her England WU19s debut, played a great pass into Teer-Hutchins, and the latter powered the ball into the bottom-right corner from outside the penalty area.

Salomon’s side looked on course for their first victory of the UEFA Women’s U19 European Championship qualification campaign, but Switzerland levelled on 77 minutes when a Swiss corner wasn’t cleared, and Luzon Kott’s effort found its way through a crowd of players to make it 2-2.
