Five years of Sarina Wiegman in numbers

Sarina Wiegman has now been England women’s head coach for five years, having taken over in September 2021 and won two UEFA Women’s EURO titles since.

The Lionesses have won EURO 2022 and EURO 2025 under the management of Wiegman and her technical team, while also reaching the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final in 2023.

The Dutch coach has won 70 per cent of her matches with the Lionesses, 56 wins from 80 games.

And the team have had a remarkable knack of avoiding defeats in major tournaments in the last five years.

Here’s a look at the Lionesses’ record with Wiegman in numbers.

Across those 80 matches, England have found the net 258 times, while conceding just 57 goals.

That gives Wiegman’s side an average of more than three goals scored per game during her time in charge, with the Lionesses keeping their opponents to fewer than one goal per match on average.

And while Wiegman already has the best win percentage among England’s long-serving managers, she is also closing in on another landmark.

Her 258 goals are the second-most scored by an England women’s team under a single manager.

The next opportunity to add to these records is in October, when the Lionesses face Greece in a two-legged FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualification play-off.

Wiegman’s side host Greece at Leicester City's King Power Stadium, on Tuesday 13th October at 7.30pm BST. The first leg is at Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion, Crete at 5.30pm BST on Friday 9 October.

Should they progress, one more play-off tie will stand will remain, with the winner progressing to next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
