The Liverpool forward became the fifth-youngest player to represent the Three Lions when he made his debut in the game with New Zealand in Tampa ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Having been selected among a group of young players to travel to England's preparation camp in Florida by head coach Thomas Tuchel to help the squad prepare for the competition, Rio was rewarded with his first cap, when he came on for the second half of the 1-0 win over the All Whites.

That followed on from a breakthrough season with Liverpool, where he caught the eye in the Premier League with his direct and skilful performances for the Reds, all whilst being a regular on the international scene with the England men's under-19s.

Born in east London, Rio grew up in Newham idolising the likes of Raheem Sterling, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and also found his football inspiration from watching his older brother's grassroots team before starting to join in himself and eventually being picked up by Chelsea's academy.

From there, a move north to Anfield ensued where his development continued as he progressed through their ranks and into the first-team squad.
