After her goal helped the Young Lionesses clinch victory over Kenya, the England ace provides latest insight from camp

Erica Parkinson's World Cup diary

Lauryn Thompson is the latest England WU17s player to provide an update from the Young Lionesses' World Cup camp in Dominican Republic…

It was amazing to play in a World Cup for the first time on Thursday night.

To be able to play with my best friends on this stage, it was just great to win and now we focus on the next game against Mexico.

It's a surreal feeling generally, but, to make an impact by coming on and scoring is just amazing, especially under the lights and the fans cheering and everything like that.

I just wanted to get on and help the team out, because everyone in the squad has a role whether that's if you're playing on the field, an impact sub or just supporting. It's great to help the team out and come away with the win.

The whole squad itself is so important, we're all very close and we just want to work together to get to that final goal and hopefully look to get that trophy.

Off the pitch, it's been a fun trip so far. We've trained pretty much every day but we like to make the most of our downtime. We all like to talk and go to each other's rooms for a catch up, or sometimes just chill by the pool.

It's good to just get away from the pitch and bond as a team in those moments. We like to have fun and act as kids, but then we get back to work later once we're training.

We know our next game is going to be tough, just like the first one as Kenya were very physical.

But we'll look to take what we learned from that game and bring it into this one.
