Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman was honoured at the 2026 Football Writers' Association tribute night.
The celebration was held at The Landmark Hotel in London on Sunday 25 January last week, with captain Leah Williamson also in attendance on the night.
Back in 2023, the FWA honoured the England women’s senior team and Wiegman after winning UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 and yesterday, the Lionesses boss was recognised on an individual level after her team retained their European crown out in Switzerland.
“I’m really proud to get the acknowledgement,” said Wiegman. “The media is so important and seeing the women’s game, following the women’s game, making it visible and then acknowledge also the performance we had.
“That makes me really proud of the team and the staff and the FA. I’m really grateful that I will receive his award.
“Over the years, how I see it when media follows and makes things visible and make us connect with our fans, we do this together and we’re in this together.
“We want to perform at the highest level – this makes us visible because then you come and watch us.
“Overall, over the last time I’ve been involved, I think we’ve built some relationships that helps to sell our product and that’s playing good football.”
Wiegman has already received a number of accolades in the wake of the summer’s tournament.
She was awarded an honorary DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the King’s New Year Honours list 2026, along with the BBC Sports Personality Coach of the Year 2025 and The Best FIFA Women's Coach.
