The Three Lions skipper spoke after England's victory in the build-up to the tournament

England’s 1-0 win over New Zealand has whet Harry Kane’s appetite for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

The captain’s first-half effort was the difference at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa as Thomas Tuchel’s side played the first of two warm-up matches out in the USA.

And the Three Lions forward is ready and raring to go for this summer’s tournament.

“We spoke before the tournament at the [German] Cup final a couple of weeks ago – I think physically, mentally, it is the best shape I have been in in my career,” he said.

“We are going into a tough environment, a tough tournament, I am excited for it. The World Cup is the biggest tournament of all. I just can't wait for it to get started.”

And although he believed England could have added to the scoreline, he was pleased with the performance.

“It's not easy,” he continued. “The heat is what we're here for. We have to prepare for that, to prepare for the tournament.

“The pitch wasn't great – hard to play the way we want to play. This is why we're here, to adapt to it against a team who had a good low block.

“We probably could have scored a couple more but we take the win and we know we are here for preparation more than the result.”

And the England skipper thanked the travelling fans with over 25,000 in attendance in Florida this evening.

“We appreciate all the support,” he explained. “We know we are going to get great support throughout the whole tournament. Hopefully we can repay them well.”
