England stars react to World Cup squad inclusions
Kane, Bellingham, Pickford, Anderson and Rashford were among those to take to social media
Harry Kane revealed his pride ahead of a record-equalling third trip to a FIFA World Cup as England captain.
The Three Lions skipper will go level with Billy Wright, who captained England at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 tournaments, when he leads his country out in the USA this summer and heads across the Atlantic fresh from another prolific season with Bayern Munich.
In a video message broadcast on a live show on the official England app and later posted to Instagram, Kane said: “I am extremely proud to be going to another World Cup. I never take these moments for granted. These are all the things I dreamed of growing up.
“To be able to represent my country for a third time at a World Cup is going to be really special. I can’t wait to be there with the boys and hopefully have an amazing experience.
“I am really proud and thanks to the fans for all the support as always. I can’t wait to see you all this summer.”
Kane was joined by several fellow members of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad in taking to social media to reveal the joy of being selected for the biggest stage of all.
Marcus Rashford will also appear at his third World Cup and said: “Today marks a full circle moment for me, from despair to jubilation.
"Missing out on that EUROs squad helped me grow as a player and a person, and most importantly, gave me a goal to work towards.
“Thank you so much for this opportunity. I can’t wait to pull on the shirt at the World Cup.”
Jordan Pickford, another stalwart of the 2018 and 2022 campaigns, added: “An honour to receive the call for my third consecutive World Cup. See you there for the journey.”
Jude Bellingham made his World Cup bow in Qatar four years ago and will get another chance to shine this summer.
The Real Madrid ace said: “Major tournament number four, World Cup number two. The kid in the last photo would never have believed it! Which is why I never take any call-up for granted. Let alone the call-up that gives me the opportunity to represent my country and my family on the biggest stage.
“It has been a tough year but I feel like I’m in a good place and ready to give absolutely everything for England yet again. England fans, can’t wait to see you in the US!”
While Kane, Rashford, Pickford and Bellingham are all returning to a scene they know well, other members of England’s squad will be soaking up all the World Cup has to offer for the first time.
Among them will be Elliot Anderson, who has made an eye-catching start to his senior international career in the last 12 months. The Nottingham Forest midfielder, whose mother Helen sadly passed away in April, hailed his family’s influence in helping him fulfil his ambitions.
“Wow! Something I have dreamt of my whole life,” Anderson said on Instagram.
“Going to my first World Cup with England is my proudest moment yet. The hard work and dedication is paying off. I couldn’t have got to this point without the huge support from my family. Mum, we are going to the World Cup.”
