ENGLAND'S BLACK LIONESSES

England’s Khiara Keating was presented with her legacy cap on Sunday evening, after becoming the 236th player to represent the Lionesses in the game with Brazil.

The goalkeeper debuted in her hometown of Manchester, and while the result didn’t go England’s way as the Lionesses slipped to a 2-1 defeat, it’s a match which will live long in Keating’s memory.

"I was a bit nervous with it being a big, big game, but with it being at home and at my home club, it calmed me down a bit,” she said.

"The result obviously didn't go the way we wanted, but it was so nice to see everybody, my mum, my family and everyone that came down and the players were so supportive.

"Hannah [Hampton] said 'just go and enjoy it, it's your debut and you only get one debut so just enjoy it and have fun.”

Keating’s debut was also a significant moment for the England women’s senior team, as she became the first Black goalkeeper to represent the Lionesses, also during Black History Month 2025.

"It was quite special knowing that I was going to make history,” she admitted.

“But I just hope the next gap is not that big and we can change that.”

The Lionesses are back in action on Tuesday when they play Australia at Derby County's Pride Park.
