"I’d like to think that belief or self-belief that someone has done it from where I’m from, is really rare and I’d love to be able to inspire young kids and make them dream they can do the same thing."

A stylish, ball-playing defender, who kicked-off his career as a trainee with hometown club Barnsley and worked his way through the England ranks from MU19, MU20 and MU21 level to become a regular in the senior squad by 2015.

With an athletic build, Stones is strong and quick and coupled with his ability on the ball, he was playing first-team football with the Tykes at the age of 17 in the Championship before moving on to Everton in 2013.

His development continued as he became a regular in the top flight and earning rave reviews for his performances, before a switch to Manchester City in 2016 saw him working under Pep Guardiola and adding more confidence to his game.

His ability and style of play means he suits the system which Gareth Southgate has implemented on the international stage with England and he was a major player for the Three Lions at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he grabbed himself two goals in the 7-1 win over Panama at the group stages.

Stones has continued to be an England regular and only missed 11 minutes of England's EURO 2020 campaign as they came within a whisker of winning the tournament.

And in the Three Lions' next match, the World Cup qualifier against Hungary, Stones won his 50th cap for his country.
