The on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder joins senior squad from MU21s for trip to San Marino, as quartet drop out of the group

14 October

Conor Gallagher has received his first senior call up to the England senior men’s squad.

The Crystal Palace loanee will train with the group at Tottenham Hotspur’s Training Ground before travelling with the squad for Monday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in San Marino.

However, Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw will not travel.

Henderson and Grealish have returned to their respective clubs for further assessment on injuries. Sterling will miss out owing to a personal matter while Mount (dental surgery) and Shaw (concussion) will no longer link up with the squad.

Gallagher, an U17 FIFA World Cup winner, featured in the MU21s’ 3-1 U21 EURO qualifying victory over Czech Republic at Turf Moor on Thursday and has been training with Lee Carsley’s group at St. George’s Park.

Elsewhere, the MU21s have added Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood to their squad.

Greenwood played in MU20s’ 2-0 defeat to Portugal in Leiria on Thursday and will now link up with the MU21s for the first time ahead as they face Georgia in Batumi on Tuesday.

Declan Rice has withdrawn from the England squad.

Having been unable to train due to illness since reporting to St. George’s Park, the midfielder has returned to West Ham United and will play no part in the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

No additions to the squad are planned at this moment in time.

Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are still yet to link up with the group and continue to be assessed following dental surgery and concussion respectively.

8 October

Emile Smith Rowe has received his first call-up to the England senior men’s squad.

The Arsenal forward arrived at St. George’s Park on Monday having initially been scheduled to join the MU21s in Burnley.

However, Marcus Rashford, James Ward-Prowse, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have not reported for international duty.

Rashford will remain with Manchester United in order to concentrate on regaining full fitness while Ward-Prowse is ruled out of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers through illness.

Mount’s arrival has been delayed due to recent dental surgery and he will continue to be monitored in the coming days, as will Shaw who is currently following concussion protocol at his club.

It means Gareth Southgate begins preparation for Albania and San Marino with 22 players.

Elsewhere, the MU21s have called up VfB Stuttgart’s Clinton Mola and Leeds United’s Cody Drameh.

The pair have replaced Fleetwood Town’s James Hill and Southampton’s Tino Livramento who have both withdrawn through injury.

Lee Carsley’s squad host Czech Republic for a 2023 U21 EURO qualifier at Turf Moor on Thursday 11 November (7pm kick-off) before travelling to face Georgia in Batumi on Tuesday 16 November.
