Harry Kane equals England men's cap record

England captain Harry Kane has equalled the record for the most-capped player for the Three Lions, after he played in the UEFA Nations League match with Czechia on Tuesday 6 October 2026.

The current England captain made his 125th appearance which means the Bayern Munich striker is now level with the all-time men's record of 125, currently held by Peter Shilton. 

He will now be able to set a historic new record for the men's senior team should he feature in the November international window, when the Three Lions take on Croatia at Wembley on Thursday 12 November before facing Spain away in Madrid on Sunday 15 November.

Kane moved into second-place in the Three Lions' all-time appearances table at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and also became the most capped outfield player in history, after he was named line-up for the FIFA World Cup semi-final with Argentina. That appearance moved him above former captain Wayne Rooney in the list of our most-capped internationals.

Shilton still holds the current all-time appearance record for the England men's national football team for now, with 125 senior international caps to his name but Kane is now just one appearances from matching him.

The Three Lions goalkeeper represented England across 20 years, after making his debut against East Germany in November 1970.

He featured in five major tournaments including the World Cups in 1982, 1986 and 1990 and European Championships in 1984 and 1988. He retired from international football following England's exit in the semi-final of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Kane became a centurion on 10 September 2024, when he won his 100th cap in a Nations League game with Finland at Wembley and he now has Shilton's record firmly in his sight.
